Introduction to Data Types & Statistics

This session will be useful for anyone who is new to using qualitative data and statistics in their work, or anyone who would like a refresh. Understanding the data you have is essential to ensure analysis is appropriate and robust. Therefore, we will cover:

• how to identify discrete and continuous data
• how to summarise and extract information from each data type (including measure of central tendency and data spread)
• smart use of visualisations for communication
• data distributions and transformations (log and square root histogram transformations)

There will be a practical R element to the session that you can follow along with (either locally or using google colab – no R/R studio install required), or you can watch and attempt later.

All training materials used in the session will be shared.
