AphA Mentorship Programme

The AphA Mentorship Programme connects data professionals in a Mentor-Mentee relationship across the NHS and Public Sector. This structured, goal-oriented programme is designed to help individuals build skills, knowledge, and confidence for both personal and professional growth.

The Programme is open to all AphA members, regardless of seniority, role, or experience level. It is included in your membership fee and aligns with AphA’s strategies for professionalisation and networking.

What to Expect

The programme runs for 12 months but is flexible, depending on your progress towards your goals. You may choose to continue your relationship with your Mentor after the 12 months, but outside the official structure of the programme. We ask that participants engage fully in the programme by listening, reviewing, and reflecting on their career. You should also be prepared for your meetings with your Mentor or Mentee.

Mentees

If you’re looking for support in your career journey, this is the programme for you. The only requirement is a willingness to listen, reflect on your career, and take responsibility for your own development.

Mentors

If you have experience and insight from your own career, we encourage you to apply. You don’t need to be a senior leader to be a Mentor—the key requirement is a willingness to listen, share your experiences, and offer support and encouragement.

AphA provides support throughout the programme with:
– Welcome packs and introductions
– Templates to help record progress – Regular check-ins to review the partnership’s progress The Mentorship Committee will gather feedback to ensure the programme is effective and meets participants’ needs.

Mentee Testimonial

I am currently working as an Information Analyst and have been in the profession for just over two years. I started my career as an analyst in the UK as an HDR BIP Intern in 2023 with the Health and Innovation-Yorkshire and Humber, before joining the NHS in 2024

I applied to the Apha mentorship programme because I was looking for guidance around career growth and navigation. As someone still relatively early in my career, I wanted support in making informed decisions, developing the right skills and broadening my experience for long-term progression.

Throughout the mentorship, we worked on identifying the key skills required at each stage of my desired career trajectory. We assessed my current capabilities and developed a clear learning and action plan. Having that structure significantly boosted my confidence.

Equally important was knowing that I had someone experienced I could turn to whenever I found myself at a crossroads. It was reassuring

The AphA mentorship programme is a great initiative and especially essential for those at the start of their careers. Having access to guidance, insight, and honest conversations about career development is incredibly powerful.

My mentor also shared that he enjoyed being part of the programme, so there seems to be a mutual value. Regardless of the stage you are in your career, I believe you will gain something from the experience.

One of the most impactful moments came right at the beginning of the mentorship. I had just made a decision between two job offers. When I met my mentor and discussed the situation, his advice and guidance helped me realise I needed to revisit my decision. He supported me on how to approach going back to the other employer professionally and confidently. That decision has had a very positive impact on my career.
He also introduced me to the FEDIP Future Digital Leadership Programme, which I applied for and was successfully accepted into. That opportunity has helped in broadening my exposure in the industry.
